Overstaying Filipinos told to keep hiding

The Philippine embassy in Saudi Arabia has advised Filipinos violating immigration rules in the Gulf Kingdom to stay hiding despite official
statements that those who give themselves up would be saved from punishment and allowed to leave the country.

In a letter published on its website, the embassy in Riyadh said it has not received any official confirmation about the statements by Minister of Labour Adel Faqih.

“The embassy advised its citizens who are violating labour laws in Saudi Arabia not to give themselves up until it receives confirmation,” Alsaudeh daily said.

Newspapers in Saudi Arabia, the largest Gulf base for Filipino labour, quoted a ministry source as saying Faqih meant that the Ministry is still considering pardoning illegal migrants and that the plan has not been enforced yet.
