San Mig Coffee has claimed the remaining semifinals spot in the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, as it defeated Meralco Bolts 90-82 on Wednesday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum, in Cubao, Quezon City in the Philippines.

“We’re just happy to be in the semis,” San Mig coach Tim Cone said, as quote by PBA on its website.

Fantastic performances from Denzel Bowles and James Yap enlivened the Coffee Mixers, as they wrapped up the best-of-three quarterfinals bout despite incurring a 0-1 deficit at the start.

Bowles finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Yap, who received treatment for his bad back on Tuesday, wound up with 20 points, three rebounds and as many assists while playing 30 minutes.

The Mixers will play against Alaska Acers, the eliminations top notcher and early qualifier, in best-of-five semis on Saturday, also at Cubao’s Big Dome.

The Bolts went scoreless in the last eight minutes of the decider, as they missed all 11 field goal attempts and committed six turnovers.

“It seems like they got a little tired in the end, especially (Eric) Dawson,” Cone said. “Dawson’s a great import, a great player. But when Denzel went out with a hit it was a blessing in disguise. Denzel got six or seven minutes of unnatural rest.”

Dawson had a game-high 24 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and three steals, although he went 0-for-4 from the floor in the final 12 minutes.

“They just missed some shots,” Cone said. “We defended well, but they still had some open shots, makeable shots.”

Meralco’s big gun Marc Cardona, who was scoreless in the fourth, wound up with 19 points while Chris Ross posted 13 markers, nine rebounds and eight assists.
