Bahrain reports 12,200 traffic offences in 12 days

Motorists in Bahrain committed more than 12,200 traffic violations in just 12 days, an average of more than 1,000 offences a day, Alayam daily said on Tuesday.

The offences during August 11-22 included 248 for jumping the red lights, 349 for speeding and 217 for wrong overtaking, the paper said, quoting Lt Colonel Mousa Al Dousari, Director of Traffic Education at the Traffic Department.
 
“We have detected 12,281 traffic offences during the period between August 11 and 22 as a result of road violations and bad practices by drivers,” he said.
 
The violations also involved 920 for using mobile phones while driving, 171 for using the wrong lane, 851 for not turning car lights on at night and 2,701 for not using the seat belt while driving.
 
They also included 1,500 for wrong parking, 71 for tyre screeching and 109 for putting children in the front seat while driving.
