Dh2m to catch fugitive Saudi prisoner

Saudi authorities announced a reward of SRtwo million (Dhtwo million) for information leading to the arrest of a local convict sentenced to death after he escaped from prison.

The prisoner, Ali Al Nasseem Al Qahtani, sneaked out of jail in the southern town of Abha by using a sharp object to saw the bars of his cell window, newspapers in the Gulf Kingdom said.

Police said last week they had mounted a massive manhunt in search for the inmate, who was awaiting execution.

“Authorities announced they will offer a reward of SRtwo million for any information leading to the arrest of Al Qahtani,” Sabq newspaper said without mentioning the prisoner’s crime.

It quoted police officials as saying they were investigating possible help offered by prison guards to Qahtani in his escape.
