Saudi Arabia’s most popular singer Mohammed Abdo has passed the danger stage and is recovering at in Paris after suffering from a stroke, a Saudi newspaper reported on Thursday.

'Sabq' carried several pictures of Abdo with its reporter in France, saying they rebuffed recent reports that Abdo was dying.

“The pictures and his chat with the paper’s reporter showed that Mohammed Abdo has recovered and left the hospital…he is now recuperating in Paris,” the Arabic language daily said.

It quoted Abdo’s daughter, Noura, as saying French doctors had assured her about her father’s health.

It said Abdo was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after spending several weeks and that he immediately met the director of Rotana, a key sponsor of Abdo’s songs.

Saudi newspapers had said the 62-year-old singer, dubbed the “artist of Arabs”, was visiting France to see his daughter who is studying in Paris when he fell ill and was rushed to hospital.

“He had three strokes during his stay at the hospital…but sources close to him said he is partly responding to treatment,” the Arabic language daily 'Alriyadh' said last week.

Abdo was born on June 12, 1949 in the southern province of Aseer. He became an orphan at the age of three when his father died.

He spent his childhood in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah, where he received a diploma in the subject of "Maritime Industry" in a Saudi high school. He worked at a post office after his examination. He now has seven children.

Abdo became noticed for his singing voice in 1960, when he was 12 years old and sang in a radio programme called 'Baba Abba's'.
