Groom going for bride told 'no bride'

A Saudi man going to take his bride after paying a large dowry and preparing his marriage house was told by her family there is no bride.

His mother said her son paid SR20,000 (Dh20,000) dowry for the bride and bought wedding jewellery for her but he was told he could take his wife only when he completes building the marriage house in the western Saudi town of Taif.

“When the house was ready, my son went to take his wife to her home…I was with him when the bride’s family and relatives told us there was no bride…they also threatened us with weapons,” the unnamed mother told ‘Sada’ newspaper.

She said the case had been in court for nearly three years and that it had cost her more than SR100,000 (Dh100,000).

The woman appealed for King Salman bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia to intervene to force that family to hand over her son’s wife.
