Houthi coup killed 1,000 children

The Yemeni Centre for Education has said that more than 1,000 children were killed and about 1,400 have been seriously injured since the Houthi coup began on September 21, ‘Emarat Al Youm’ reports.

The centre also noted that there are more than 2.9 million child in Yemen with no access to schools.

The centre added that 215 children have been detained by the Houthi militia and that more than 2,000 children were recruited by militias in the war, which has been raging for more than a year.

Also, the report mentions that 1,495 schools have been damaged or destroyed by the war.

The report says that nearly 10 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance and there are about 2.5 million handicapped in Yemen, half of them under the age of 15.

The report said that 537 children under the age of five are at risk of severe malnutrition, with that number expected to double by the end of the year, up to about 1.2 million.

The centre released these figures in its report to mark Children's Day which fell on November 20.
