Maid slashes windpipe over husband’s illness

An Indonesian housemaid in Saudi Arabia slashed her windpipe in an apparent suicide attempt after she was told her husband is very ill, newspapers in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Tuesday.

Her Saudi employer who returned home from work in the southwestern province of Jazan found the unconscious maid lying in a pool of blood, they said.

“She slashed her windpipe after hearing that her husband is ill and his health is deteriorating,” Al Watan newspaper said.

“Doctors managed to save her and she is now in hospital in a stable condition after having a windpipe surgery.”
