Worshipper passes away after calling for prayers at dawn

A 54-year-old Saudi man died just after he called for dawn prayers at a packed mosque in the Gulf Kingdom, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Ahmed Hikmi was asked by worshippers at the mosque in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah to call for prayers after the Muazzen (prayer caller) was late.

"He climbed the podium and started to call for prayers. Just after he finished and wanted to pray, he dropped dead," 'Sabq' daily said, without mentioning the cause of death.
