Monkeys attack residents in Saudi capital

Two monkeys killed in clash while the rest fled towards valleys

At least nine monkeys raided houses and tried to attack residents in the Saudi capital Riyadh, prompting clashes that resulted in the death of two monkeys. The rest fled towards nearby valleys after causing panic in the neigbourhood.
Four of the attackers climbed a wall and jumped into the back garden of a house, triggering screams by playing children. Armed with a big stick, their uncle launched a counter-offensive and killed one monkey, pushing the others to flee.
“After I killed one, I chased the others outside the house…I hear screams at our neighbours and I went there…I saw a monkey trying to attack them so I rushed to it and hit it on the head, killing it instantly,” said Nayef Al Qahtani, a resident of Alhazm neighbourhood in the Saudi capital.
In a report from Riyadh on Sunday, Kabar and other local newspapers quoted residents as saying they saw seven monkeys fleeing towards nearby valleys. They also said they had no idea where the monkeys had come from.
