Muslims will perform Hajj (pilgrimage) in Saudi Arabia twice in 2039 and this means they will celebrate three Eids in one calendar year, according to a Saudi astronomer.

During that year, Hajj rites will take place in the first 10 days of January and again in the last 10 days of December, said Abdullah Al Misnad, a professor in the government university in the central Saudi province of Al Qaseem.

“In 2039, pilgrims will ascend to Mount Arafat and sacrifice in the first 10 days of January and this will happen again in the last 10 days of December…this means we will celebrate three Eids (Al Adha and Al Fitr) in one calendar year,” he said, quoted by the Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq.

A Muslim year, dubbed lunar year, is 11 to 12 days shorter than the 365-day calendar year.
