The sun will rise and set at the same time in the morning and evening in the central Saudi town of Makkah on Monday, a phenomenon that occurs once a year, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Sunday.

Muslims praying at the Grand Mosque in Islam’s holiest shrine will also be able to see the moon straight above them at night on the same day, Sharq said.

“Monday will be equally split into day and night in Makkah,” the paper said, quoting Majid Abu Zahira, head of the Jeddah Astronomy Association.

“The sun will rise exactly at 6:30 am on Monday and will set exactly at 6:30 pm on the same day…it is a rare, once a year natural phenomenon.”

He said another rare phenomenon taking place on Monday is that the moon would be set straight above Makkah at a perpendicular angle.

“The moon will appear at around 1.05 pm in Saudi Arabia and continues to move to set vertically above Makkah at 7:55:54 pm.”
