Saudi courts have handled more than 1,800 forgeries, bribes and other corruption cases in the Gulf Kingdom over the past six months, the Saudi Arabic language daily Okaz reported on Friday.

The cases included both Saudis and expatriates and involved forging, bribes, swindling, counterfeit currency, manipulation and other offences, it said.

“These cases were handled mostly as criminal cases and they involved defendants from the public and private sectors,” it said.

Around 30 per cent of them were forgery cases while bribe accounted for nearly 25 per cent and counterfeit currency for about 20 per cent.

The paper said nearly 40 per cent of the defendants had already been sentenced while the remaining cases are still being handled by the courts.
