The head of a Saudi university attacked a painting show held by one of his female students, ripping most of the paintings hung on the faculty walls before throwing them on the floor. He later texted an apology to her mobile phone.
Hind Al Gamdi, a student at the university in the southwestern town of Beljarshy, said she was horrified by the attack by the dean of the faculty of science and arts on her paintings, adding that she did not know why he had done so.
“Gamdi said she was very upset by such an act because it had taken her more than three months to prepare for that exhibition,” the Saudi Anhaa daily said.
“She said the professor later sent a text on her mobile phone apologizing and asking her to forgive him for what he had done.”
Gamdi told the paper that she had decided to stage the exhibition with the encouragement of her arts professor. She said the show was supposed to be held and inaugurated by the dean of the faculty.
