King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia ordered the payment of SR2million (Dh1.95 million) to two men who risked their lives to rescue an 11-year-old Saudi boy after he was trapped in a blaze at his house.

Mohammed Omar Al Shamma, a Saudi, and Mustafa Ahmed Mohammed, a Chadian, were each paid SR1million for their “heroic act,” the London-based Saudi Arabic language daily Alsharqalawsat said.

Deputy Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz handed the cheques to the two men at his office in Riyadh on Monday, it said, adding that the two dragged the boy out to safety after his flat in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah was gutted by fire last month.
