An ambulance rushing a pregnant Saudi woman to hospital after she went into labour late at night ran out of petrol and stopped in the middle of a 140km road.

The woman had gone to a nearby medical centre after feeling pains in her abdomen and a doctor told the ambulance to take her to hospital immediately.

“The hospital is nearly 150km away from the medical centre and suddenly the ambulance stopped after running out of petrol,” the woman’s brother-in-law said.

“She started to scream at the ambulance driver and gave him her husband phone number.

“The driver contacted her husband who rushed to the area and took his wife to hospital,” he told the Arabic language daily Sabq.

The paper, in a report from the central Saudi town of Buraidah, said the woman’s husband refused to give the driver a lift.
