Wrong ending in couple imitating Romeo and Juliet

An Asian couple apparently wanting to personify Romeo and Juliet in William Shakespeare's famous tragedy failed to fully achieve the end. They both drank poison but the man survived.

The two lovers appear to have decided to put an end to their life for some reason by drinking insecticide together at their home in Jahraa in Kuwait, Alanba Arabic language daily reported on Tuesday, quoting police.

Neighbours called the police to tell them about an Asian couple who were dying after drinking a large quantity of insecticide, the paper said.

"They were rushed to hospital but the girl had already died...the man was in critical condition but was saved," it said without identifying the couple.

It quoted police sources as saying they believe it was a suicide pact, adding they would later interrogate the man to determine the reasons for their act.

Alanba said that while the man escaped the poison, he might not escape justice as he could face criminal charges.

"We will wait until he recovers to interrogate him about the incident," a police source said. "In case we verify that he pushed his friend to commit a suicide, then we will charge him with premeditated murder."
