Saudi jailed, to be lashed for slapping wife

A Saudi court sentenced a local man to 10 days in prison and ordered him lashed 30 times on charges of slapping his wife in the face.

The judge in the eastern town of Qatif also told the wife that she could witness the whipping if she wishes “to quench her anger” and ordered the husband to attend a “crash training course on how wives should be treated.”

The 35-year-old Saudi woman had reported her husband, 30, to the police and provided a medical report showing he slapped her hard in the face.

The unnamed husband told court he had done so because she “misbehaved” with his relatives while they were visiting him at his house.

“The judge issued that sentence after the husband confessed to slapping his wife, which is prohibited in Islam,” Sabq Arabic language daily said.
