When a UAE householder in Al Mamoura area of Ras Al Khaimah got his October electricity and water bill, he received a severe shock.

“The bill for one month amounted to Dh29,900," Al Khaleej newspaper reported him as saying.

"I was shocked by the high amount of the bill for the month of October, which jumped from Dh200, which was the average payment per month."

"I  went immediately to the office in the northern region of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), to inquire about the reason for the high value.

"The authority sent one of its staff to the house, where he reviewed the meter and confirmed there was an error in the bill.

"The competent officer in Fewa informed me there was a technical error in the computer, which led to a record high value of home consumption of electricity and water services during the past month," the homeowner said.

Mohammed Khalil Al Shamsi, Fewa Director of Corporate Communications, in Dubai, said “the authority dealt seriously with the complaint and sent one of its staff to examine the meter. We discovered that the error was due to a technical mistake in the computer."

Al Shamsi confirmed “after verifying the meter reading, while will correct the error contained in the bill, taking the real value."
