Sewa substation fire: Power restored

A power and water outage in parts of Sharjah has now been restored following a blaze that gutted through a Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority substation this morning.

The fire erupted around 7am on Monday, causing heavy traffic jams in the surrounding areas of King Faisal Street, even as a black plume of cloud was noticed by people residing in Dubai.

As Civil Defence authorities battled the blaze, power and water was cut off in the surrounding areas, throwing neighbouring residents into turmoil as they battled the scorching summer temperatures that reached mid-forties today.

SEWA has, however, confirmed that the brief outage has been restored stating the fire broke out at substation number three, which resulted in utilities being turned off in the surrounding areas.

However, full services were restored around noon, according to SEWA.

Several residents took to social media to complain of the summer heat driving them out of their offices and homes in the affected areas with no power, resulting in several taking to the nearby malls and driving to stay with friends until the services were restored.

No injuries were sustained as a direct cause of the blaze, stated authorities.
