Sports complex named after Dubai Crown Prince

The Dubai Sports Council announced on Tuesday that it has named the new Dubai Sports Complex after Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in recognition of his immense support for sports and sportsmen in Dubai, in particular and the UAE in general.

This initiative also comes in appreciation to Sheikh Hamdan's continuous support for the sports sector in the UAE, and his ongoing endeavour to provide all the necessary resources to promote sports in the country and to raise high the name of the UAE in various sports events, celebrating his achievements in sports arena.

The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex is viewed as the latest icon in the record of sports achievements infrastructure in Dubai, and one of the most prominent additions to the sports institutions in the UAE.

The new complex will contribute to the consolidation of the country's position as a high quality forum that enables it to host grand local, regional and international sporting events.

Sheikh Hamdan inaugurated the new sports edifice on Sunday, October 10. The new complex is expected to host the World Swimming Championship scheduled to be held from December 15-19, 2010. Elite of world swimmers will participate in the tournament, which is held for the first time in an Arab city.

The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex can accommodate up to 15,000 people, and houses three major pools for swimming, training and diving.
