A 20-year-old Sri Lankan woman, who was absconding after stabbing her 21-year-old boyfriend about two months ago, surrendered to the police on November 18, the ‘Divaina’ has reported.

A love affair between the woman, a garment factory worker, and the youth had started about one and a half years ago.

Both had informed their parents about the affair and about their intention to marry.

The youth realised the poverty of the girl’s family when he accompanied his parents to the girl’s house one day.

The boyfriend later asked the girl for a meeting to end the affair. The angry girl went to meet him and stabbed him.

The court released girl on bail after she surrendered to the police.

Woman offers daughter’s friend to husband

Police in Sri Lanka has arrested a 39-year-old woman and her 65-year-old second husband on the charge that the former had offered her 9-year-old daughter’s friend to her husband for molestation, the ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

Police said the woman had accompanied the girl from school to the former’s home.

The child told her parents there was an elderly person in the woman’s house who took her to bed and removed her clothes when the woman went out to school to fetch her daughter.

While leaving her daughter’s friend near the school, the woman told her to tell her parents that she had attended school, the child said.

Police said the suspects were arrested after a complaint by the girl’s parents.
