BBS Secretary plead guilty to drunk driving

Colombo: Bodu Bala Sena (Buddhist Power Force) Secretary and vociferous hardline monk, Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera pleaded guilty to hit-and-run charges filed against him by Colombo Grandpass police in 2000, ‘Colombo Telegraph’, showing a court document obtained by them, reported on Thursday 11.

The monk was fined Rs12,000 by Traffic Courts, Colombo, on September 20, 2000 for the accident occurred on April 14 the same year for causing injuries to two named, Mohamed Rifai and Ravindra Kumar.

Gnanasara Thera was driving lorry number 6 Sri 5444 and among the charges against him were drunk driving, speeding, driving without a valid licence and failing to report the incident.

The monk pleaded guilty to all nine charges.
