Boy, 14, kills classmate, dumps body in well

A 14-year-old schoolboy has been arrested in Sri Lanka for suffocated a 13-year-old classmate to death and dumping his dead body in an abandoned well, the ‘Hiru Gossip’ newspaper has reported.

A body of a 13-year-old schoolboy, who had been killed after squeezing the neck, was found in an abandoned well at Panamure area in Embilipitiya on Thursday, ‘Hiru Gossip’ reported.

The victim, a student of Godawela Central School, had not returned home after writing a term test and his relatives had searched for him till midnight.

Later, a villager saw the body of the boy in an abandoned well close to the school where he studied.

His body was salvaged on the following day morning along with his school bag.

The postmortem revealed that the kid had been killed by squeezing the neck. Police arrested a 14-year-schoolboy who had left the school after the term test with victim and gone to a wooded area to catch small parrots.

Police said there was an argument between the two over sharing captured birds. During the ensuing clash, the older student had dumped him in an abandoned well after squeezing his neck.

Cousin killed with pole over land border dispute

A man has been arrested in Sri Lanka for killing his 34-year-old cousin with a pole over a land border dispute, the ‘Sunday Mawbima’ has reported.

Police said there was a dispute between them over the boundary of their respective lands.

When the drunk suspect started abusing the victim near the boundary of their land, the victim had appealed to him not to use swear words in front of children and to leave.

Police said, during this argument, the suspect had attacked the victim with a pole and seriously wounded him.

The injured man was first admitted to Balangoda base hospital and then transferred to Colombo National Hospital where he died.
