Husband kills wife for wearing jeans

A drunken man in Sri Lanka beat his wife to death with an iron rod for wearing denim trousers, the ‘Hiru Gossip’ has reported.

The incident, which happened on the night of November 4, was not noticed by neighbours as arguments between the man and his wife were hear frequently.

The couple’s younger daughter was at home during the incident. Their elder daughter was under probation for some incident which happened a few months ago.

Police has arrested the suspect. An acting magistrate visited the scene of crime for inquiry and ordered the body be taken for postmortem at Kuliyapitiya base hospital.

Mother drinks poison giving some to daughter

A woman in Sri Lanka committed suicide by consuming poison after poisoning her five-year-old daughter who survived, the ‘Hiru Gossip’ has reported.

CCTV footage showed the 28-year-old woman writing a letter near a temple in the town of Balangoda, the paper said.

Neighbours admitted the woman and her daughter to hospital. The woman was declared on admission.

The dead woman had written in the letter that no one should attempt to rescue her and her daughter as she had decided to commit suicide on her birthday.

The child has been transferred to Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo for further treatment. The hospital’s director said that her condition was not good.

Police has recorded a statement from the dead woman’s husband while continuing investigations.
