Husband sells wife to pay his vehicle premium

Colombo: When police arrested a woman in Sri Lanka on charges of engaging in prostitution, they were in for a shock.

According to a report in 'The Mirror', officers of Kalutara South police station set into action after receiving a reliable tip-off that a rest house in Panwilla area was used as a brothel.

When they waited for an opportune time and raided the place, they managed to arrest one woman, while the others managed to flee successfully.

This woman then recounted her ordeal to the cops saying that she was allegedly sold by her husband because he needed money to pay the lease for his van.

The men [her buyers] brought her to the rest house and forced her into flesh trade.

She will be produced in court.
