Colombo: A new constitutional amendment bill already been drafted by a group of prominent jurists is earmarked to take away the land and police powers from the provincial councils, ‘Mirror’ reported quoting the LankaCNews website.

LankaCNews is maintained under the patronage of Minister of Housing, Constructions & Engineering, Wimal Weerawansa which stated that the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) polls will be held after the enactment of the new law with the introduction of the 19th amendment to the constitution to be brought to the parliament in June.

It is reported that the new amendment will not only take away the land and police powers of all Provincial Councils (PCs), but also the requirement of obtaining the approval of all provincial councils before the parliament to pass a bill.
