Mom sells son for Dh825 to travel with lover

Colombo: A mother in Sri Lanka along with her alleged lover sold her five-year-old boy for [Sri Lankan] Rs30,000 (approx. Dh825), reported ‘Lankadeepa’.

The duo was planning to use the money to travel abroad, the report added.

Police have arrested the woman, her lover as well an agent who helped them sell the child to a police undercover agent.

The incident came to light when the woman and her lover went to Colombo and stayed at a lodge to look for potential buyers. A reliable tip-off to police led to their arrest.

The child has been handed over to Prajapathi Children’s Home, while the suspects will face legal action.
