Mother and child drown in well

SRI LANKA: Palai police stated that a mother and her child aged one-year-and-half had fallen and drowned in an unprotected well near their home at Periyapalai area on Saturday (19), ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

The victims had been identified as, Jeyarajan Sindujan and his mother, Jeyaranjan Thabodini (32), residents of Periyapalai in Palai.

The child, who had been playing in the compound near the unprotected well, had suddenly drowned after falling into it and his mother had died when she jumped to rescue the child, according to the neighbours.

The postmortem had been held at Kilinochchi general hospital.

Further investigations are conducted by Palai police.
