A 31-year-old woman from Madawala, near Kandy in Sri Lanka  delivered quintuplets at the Kandy General Hospital on Thursday, ‘The Island’ reported.

The mother Fathima Fasis was married five years ago and this was her first pregnancy.

Fathima’s husband Mohamed Rina, 36, is out of the country.

Kandy Hospital gynaecologists said the babies, who weigh between 500 and 750 grammes, were born prematurely and one of them is a girl.

A team of young doctors attended the confinement under the supervision of specialist gynaecologist Dr. Kapila Gunawardana.

The mother and babies are in good health.
