The nap that cost a life and sent a man to jail

A worker who was late on the job by five minutes may now spend the rest of his life in jail.

Major Juma Al Kaabi, Head of Crimes Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Criminal Investigation Department, told this website that a 29-year-old construction worker hailing from the Indian state of Bengal killed his supervisor at the work site.

The man overslept on his afternoon break. When he returned to the construction site in the Musafah area of Abu Dhabi , his supervisor and he got into an argument.

According to the accused’s confession, the supervisor slapped him and told him he was going to deduct a day’s salary.

"The worker was late by five minutes. When he showed up, he ended up in an argument with his supervisor and killed him. He ran away after that," Major Al Kaabi said, adding that the Abu Dhabi police arrested the 29-year-old suspect in record time.

"When the Abu Dhabi Police Operation Department received a complaint regarding the dead body of SA, a 30-year-old construction supervisor on the fifth floor of a construction  site in Musafah area, we sent a team to the location, and found the victim was attacked on his head and face. We found a metal rod next to the victim and it was covered with blood. It had the finger prints of the suspect who ran away to another emirate after committing the crime," he said.
