Two Emiratis, a driver, 19 and companion 22, were killed, while the third the brother of driver 18, sustained injuries when their car rammed into a radar post late Monday night at Khaleej Al Arabi Road in Mushrif district in Abu Dhabi.

Following the report, the traffic patrols swung to the scene of accident. Meanwhile, the ambulance, unit of serious accidents and civil defence participated in the rescue operation.

Lt Col Ahmed Al Zayodi, head of the grievous accidents section at the Department of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police, said the accident was caused by excessive speed that prompted the swerve of the vehicle to hit the radar post, killing the driver and his companion on the spot, while the third person was injured. He was rushed to the Sheikh Zayed Military Hospital.

He added that the vehicle involved in the accident was pulling a trailer carrying a motorcycle, indicating that the initial investigation has shown that the speed device in the vehicle was manipulated to increase the speed.

Al Zayodi called on motorists to heed specified speed limit, especially the vehicles that drag trailers.
