Who are Dubai drivers with worst safety record

Emiratis and three Asian nationalities have emerged as the drivers with the worst records in Dubai this year, causing most of the road accidents that resulted in the deaths of 106 people in the first seven months, according to police statistics.

Pakistanis caused 189 mishaps that resulted in 35 deaths. Emiratis were responsible for 158 accidents that killed 22 people. The police report showed Indians responsible for 142 accidents and 20 deaths, while Bangladeshi drivers caused 31 road crashes that involved five deaths.

The report showed the casualties between January and July this year, were higher than the 99 deaths recorded on Dubai’s roads in the same period of last year.

The accidents this year also resulted in injuries to 1,529 people and more than 1,000 of those accidents were car-on-car crashes.

The rest involved cars running over pedestrians, overturning and banging into other objects.

The report showed Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road as the most dangerous road in the emirate as it was the scene for the deaths of 17 people during that period.

Emirates Road and Sheikh Zayed Road witnessed the death of 13 and nine people respectively.

Colonel Saif Mohair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic in Dubai, the General Administration of Traffic in Dubai is working on a study of the causes of rising traffic fatalities to develop solutions that will prevent their frequent occurrences.
He said street traffic patrols will increase, especially on roads with high incidents of accidents.
