UAE-Qatari higher panel meets in Doha

Qatari and Emirati officials met to hammer out an agenda for the sixth session of the joint higher ministerial committee which will be held on Monday.
 
Khaled Ghanem Al Ghaith, assistant to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, co-chaired the preparatory meeting with Sultan Al Maraikhi, Assistant to Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, said massive participation
of top officials from both sides at the meeting underscored their sincere desire to remove obstacles impeding economic and trade integration between the two countries so as to serve mutual interests.
 
He emphasised the need for broader co-operation in areas of tourism, trade, energy and renewable energy and for exchange of expertise in the fields of health, education, investment and food security.
 
For his part, the Qatari official recognised the importance of joint consultation and coordination amidst the current rapid regional and global transformations.
 
Over the two days, he said, the officials will discuss a wide-range of topics including co-operation in areas of military exercises, counter-infiltration and counter-smuggling, economic diversification, trade, oil and gas, renewable energy, transport, agriculture and food security, sports and education.
 
Saleh Mohammed bin Nasra Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Qatar, said the UAE and Qatar were working to serve the well being of the region and ensure its security and stability through positive strategic co-operation, under the GCC umbrella, in a host of regional and international challenges.
 
Trade exchange, he said, was indicative of the strong bilateral ties with trade reaching QR 26.1 billion in 2015. making the UAE the fifth largest trading partner globally.
 
He noted that 1,074 UAE companies are operating in Qatar, which has 4,200 firms in the UAE.
