A Saudi female doctor aged above 40 years has lost a plea to break away from her father on the grounds he is cruel and prevents her from getting married so he will not lose her salary, Sharq newspaper reported on Monday.

The court in the central town of Madinah rejected the case for the second time this week and ordered the woman to return and live with her father, it said.

The unidentified doctor had twice asked the court to end her father’s custody and allow her to live on her own because he beats her up, seizes her monthly salary and rejects any one who seeks to marry her, the paper said.

“The court has again turned down the doctor’s plea and ordered her to return to her home…the court gave this sentence despite pleas by the defence lawyer, who warned that she would suffer at her home,” it said.

The woman has been staying at a government protection centre for nearly five years as she is refusing to return to her house.
