Indonesian rescuers find plane crash bodies

Rescuers have found the bodies of two pilots, an Australian and a Slovakian, who were killed when their small plane crashed in Indonesia's remote province of Papua, police said Monday.

Their Susi Air Cessna Grand Caravan plane, which was carrying fuel and food, went down on Friday in Yahukimo district.

"The rescue team has found the bodies of the pilots... we plan to evacuate the bodies today," Papua police spokesman Wachyono said.

Thick fog and bad weather had prevented search-and-rescue teams from getting to the remote crash site earlier.

The sprawling Indonesian archipelago relies heavily on air transport and has a poor aviation safety record. Turbulent weather conditions in Papua have caused several air accidents in recent years.
