Madagascar finds body of dead Frenchlady's man

Published

Madagascar police announced on Saturday it had found the body of a missing Frenchman whose pregnant girlfriend was murdered a week ago on a deserted beach.

Gerald Fontaine, 41, had been missing since the discovery of his girlfriend Johanna Delahaye's body near the southwestern coastal town of Tulear, where the couple had been running a restaurant.

"We can confirm that it is the body of Gerald Fontaine," a police official told AFP, following the discovery of a body on Friday in Manombo, a village some 60 kilometres (35 miles) from Tulear.

On April 12, the couple had ridden a quad to a nearby beach located in idyllic spot but isolated and reputedly dangerous.

Delahaye, who was two months pregnant, was found dead on a beach on Sunday. She appeared to have been beaten and thrown into the sea.

Four local men have been detained in connection with the case, police said.
