Yemen's Cabinet was back in the country after months spent in self-imposed exile in Saudi Arabia and was working Wednesday out of the southern port city of Aden, a government spokesman said.

The ministers will focus on restoring security and stability to the country, beginning with focusing on security in Aden, Yemen's second-largest city, according to Rajeh Badi, who spoke from Aden.

The ministers and President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi had fled Yemen earlier this year in the face of an advance by Shiite rebels knows as Houthis who captured the country's capital, Sanaa, last September.

Hadi remains in Saudi Arabia, said presidential officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Yemen has been torn by a ferocious war pitting the Houthis and forces fighting for former President Ali Abdullah Saleh against Hadi loyalists, as well as southern separatists, local militias and Sunni extremists.

The conflict escalated in March as a Saudi-led coalition launched airstrikes against the Houthis. With support from the Saudi-led coalition, pro-government forces recently pushed the Houthis out of several key southern areas, including Aden in July.

The Houthis still control Sanaa, and are resisting a push by pro-government forces along several front lines around the country.

ERC continues humanitarian programmes to help Yemeni people

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) continues to provide humanitarian aid for the relief of the Yemeni people and the reconstruction of the city of Aden, which has been affected as a result of the recent events in Yemen.

The campaign is in implementation of the directives of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,  and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and with the follow up of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent.

In a statement, Dr. Muhammad Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, said that the number of families that have benefited from food parcels programmes had reached 11,379.

In addition, the ERC delegation in Yemen has signed maintenance contracts for schools and supply of school equipment including tables, chairs, blackboards, computers, air conditioners and school lockers.

The 54 completed schools will be furnished over the next two days in preparation for the reception of students in their new school year after Eid Al Adha.

Al Falahi pointed out that the ERC's team has distributed 587 food baskets to families in different areas of Aden over the last three days.
