Wildlife experts are investigating what caused the blunt trauma found in 30 dead birds pulled from Lake Havasu, on the Arizona-California border.
Today's News-Herald reports Lake Havasu wildlife manager Suzanne Ehret recovered the eared grebes - duck-like aquatic birds - late last month. She sent them to Phoenix's wildlife agency for further testing.
Arizona Game and Fish wildlife biologist Carrington Knox said Tuesday the birds have since been transferred from Phoenix to the National Wildlife Health Center in Wisconsin, where testing capabilities are more comprehensive.
Knox says it's unclear whether environmental factors caused the birds' deaths. Results from testing are expected in a month or two.
