Caught: Guest demands Room #2441…

A Nigerian visitor who insisted on taking a certain hotel room invited trouble unto himself.
 
His insistence for a particular room not only exposed cocaine hidden in the washroom of that room but also the drugs that he was carrying, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
 
OM, 37, approached the airport hotel after his arrival and asked a receptionist for Room No. 2441.
 
“I checked and found that the room was not vacant. On informing him, the customer asked me if he could get Room No. 24419, which is close to the first room. However, that room was also occupied,” testified receptionist, BK.
 
BK suspected the visitor’s strange request and informed superiors.
 
Room No. 2441 was searched and a cloth bag was found hidden behind the pipes in the washroom. It comprised 40 cocaine capsules, testified First Lieutenant Abdullah Hassan.
 
Upon arrest, police confiscated another 119 capsules comprising 2,453 kgs of cocaine from OM.
 
The accused told police that he was operating at the best of his compatriot, SW, who is in Brazil.
 
“My compatriot asked me to travel to Dubai and book room No. 2441 at airport hotel and to collect the capsules hidden in the bathroom. He asked me to transport them to Nigeria and that I would be paid $500,” OM told police.
 
The court will issue sentence on May 11.
