Dad puts son up for sale on Facebook for $20m

Poverty-stricken Saudi wants better life for mom and sister

A Saudi man put up his son for sale on Facebook for a whopping $20 million (Dh73.4m) to beat poverty.

According to 'Al Sharq' newspaper, Saud bin Nasser Al Shahry took the extreme step when all doors closed on him. His business of collecting debts and settling disputes had to be shut down following a court ruling, which stated it was not a legal firm, he alleged.

Thereafter, he approached the Labour Office for monthly financial assistance. He alleged that he was refused aid because he was above 35 years - the age limit of receiving ministry help.

Therefore, he decided to sell his child to offer "a decent life to his mother and sister rather than living in poverty", the report added.

His only condition for the 'sale' is to know the city where the buyer resides.

He is willing to take the matter to court to complete the 'sale procedures', the paper added.

If the man assumes he can get $20m for his son, what would be the going rate for a European mother-in-law? I'd be happy with a percentage, all they have to do is come get her.

This brings child slavery to the forefront of public attention. Most children are sold for much less. I hope this father's true intent is to draw attention to the evil nature of considering humans into slavery of any kind. He probably also wants to draw attention to some unfair policies that prevent him from working and yet won't allow him to support his family. Impoverished people around the world sell their own flesh and blood.

Who's going to buy him? It's 20 million times cheaper to make one.

Does he really need $20m to get out of poverty? It's amusing that if he does get $20m, he would not only elevate himself from poverty but also enter into the top 1% of the world's richest.

I Agree with AlRaisi's comment. It's just a publicity stunt and nothing more. One of Sheikh's will get up and listen to his problem and will eventually help him.

This is so wrong in many ways. No matter what, selling your kid for your own benefit or others is never an option.
  • Mohd AlRaisi 4 January 2012 04:06 1 0
He (the father) won't do it and he has no intention of selling his own blood. He is just seeking media's attention to show his actual financial problem and might be looking of sympathy of a rich sheikh from the gulf countries to help him.

No parent has a right to sell their child. Children are not property.

This is so illegal and immoral that it seems futile to bother writing. Have a better life behind bars.

Hossein whoever you are I think you have idea what's the meaning of value and by your silly comments you have no morals either. No matter how desperate your children are not are never for sale.

The minute this man put this poor boy up for sale he relinquished any right as a father, he should be charged and fined heavily, and the child taken into care but at the father's expense.

Hossein - you can't be serious. If you are then you should never be allowed to have kids of your own and if you already have then I pity them. If they don't live in a civil 21st Century society where they could be immediately be taken into care to protect them from your views. To treat your kids as 'property' and to justify their sale is a great sickness of the mind. Only scum of the earth treat defenseless children so.

Before you sell your son go buy a brain so you can think properly. You are definitely stupid and crazy... tfehhhhhh 3alek
  • Hossein 3 January 2012 15:30 0 2
As children are the property of the father he is entitled to sell his son. But I think 20 million is much too expensive.

    Doesn't this constitute human trafficking?
