Man films banker’s wife for extortion

A man claiming he has financial problems went into a banker’s home in Dubai with his brother disguised as a woman and filmed the housewife without her knowledge.

He later demanded Dh3.7 million or he would publicize the film. Guards at the building had admitted the two at night, thinking they were known visitors.

Inside the apartment, the man asked the banker’s wife to help him but she told him to contact her husband’s secretary at the bank and she would help.

A few days later, the man called the secretary and she appeared willing to help but he demanded Dh3.67 million and told her about the film showing the banker’s wife inside her flat in various positions.

The secretary did not believe and asked him to prove it. The man went to the bank and handed her a flash memory containing the film without realizing he was filmed by the bank’s security cameras.

The secretary then gave the flash memory to the banker’s wife. She handed it to her husband who called the police.

The man and his brother stood trial on Thursday on charges of extortion and encroaching on private life.

Teen raped by friend in Kuwait

A Kuwaiti man raped his childhood teen age friend after the latter refused to offer his body to him during a picnic at a remote camp in the oil-rich Gulf emirate.

The 16-year-old boy was spending the week end at the camp alone with his friend, who is older than him, Alwatan Arabic language daily said.

“The man then asked the boy to let him sodomise him but the boy was shocked and adamantly refused,” the paper said.

“The boy was angered and wanted to leave the camp when his friend jumped on him and overpowered him…he then raped him.”

The paper said the boy informed his family who reported his friend to the police, adding that they are searching for the rapist.

Children killed in acid attack for being friends

GHAZNI: A 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy have been killed in an acid attack in Afghanistan, an official said Saturday, with witnesses claiming it was because of their friendship in what is an ultra-conservative country.

The bodies were discovered on Friday in wasteland in the Esfandi area of Ghazni province in south central Afghanistan, provincial police chief Zorawar Zahid told AFP.

"Their bodies and faces were burnt by acid," he said.

The police chief said officers were investigating the motive for the attack, but witnesses who found the bodies told AFP the two were probably killed because of their friendship.

No one has claimed the bodies, which are still in Ghazni hospital, police said.

The attack is the latest incident to highlight the dangers still faced by many young men and women in Afghanistan 10 years after a US-led invasion ousted the Taliban, notorious for their oppressive policies against women and conservative attitude towards relationships.

On December last year, a 17-year-old Afghan girl and her family were sprayed with acid, apparently after rejecting a marriage proposal. The girl, Mumtaz, was seriously injured when several masked gunmen broke into her home in the northern city of Kunduz and sprayed acid in her face.
