Friends watch in horror as teen falls off cliff, dies

A 14-year-old boy has died after falling down a cliff south of Adelaide.

The boy slipped and fell about 50 metres while walking along a cliff edge at Gulf Rock near Maslin Beach.

Emergency crews managed to reach him at the base of the cliff and were administering treatment but police have confirmed the boy died while receiving CPR.

Detective Sergeant David Gordge says the boy suffered serious internal injuries.

"Paramedics were on scene shortly after, where they conducted CPR on the young fellow for a lengthy period of time," he said.

"But unfortunately he passed away during their efforts."

He says the boy was walking along the cliff edge when he lost his footing.

"That area is very rocky, usually covered by water, but with tide going out the rocks were exposed," he said.

"It is an area that is relatively dangerous to be walking through."

Family and friends have gathered at the spot at Gulf Rock.

The boy had been spending the afternoon with friends there when he accidentally fell.
