An Egyptian woman took her husband to court to demand divorce just a year after their marriage because of a rift on who should turn the light off before going to bed.

Shireen Mahrous told court in the Egyptian capital Cairo that she and her husband argue most of the time over trivial issues and that she can no longer live with him.

"We fall out many times as we argue all the day over trivial things, including who should turn the light off before we go to bed…we also argue about food and time to wake up in the morning," she said, according to Alyoum Al Sabei daily.

The paper said the husband, Munir, who refuses to divorce his wife, told court that he was shocked by his wife’s personality after marriage.

"She never stops moaning and cries 24 hours a day for no reason…I have been patient with her and made clear that divorce is not a game."

The paper said the judge postponed sentence to July 30.
