A passenger jet heading to Egypt was forced to return to Gatwick airport a short time into the flight after an emergency escape slide fell off.
All 237 passengers onboard the Thomas Cook Flight TCX1638, which left West Sussex airport at 9am today [November 2], are safe, according to a DailyMail report.
The emergency slide unit is believed to have fallen off near the Kent and East Sussex border, but the fault was reported only while the plane was over Belgium.
“The aircraft landed safely at Gatwick Airport and we are now immediately undertaking a full investigation and working with the airline authorities,” the airline statement said.
Passengers are scheduled to depart Sunday afternoon. The airlines has also apologised for the delay.
Meanwhile, officials are trying to locate the object and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched an investigation.
