Fines for customers who don't finish meal

Move intended to encourage customers not to overspend

Customers going into a Saudi restaurant were surprised to see a notice that they would be penalised if they do not finish the food they request. Owners said the move is intended to encourage customers not to overspend.

“We decided to fine customers who do not finish their food and many of them have already welcomed the move,” said Fahd Al Anzi, owner of Marmar restaurant in the eastern port of Dammam.

“We just want to encourage our customers to rationalise their expending following news of famine in Africa…we took the decision after we noticed that some customers order food that is much more than what they actually need…..the fine depends on how much food they leave behind.”

Indeed, this is happening in Germany as well.

Great idea! I would suggest that the fines collected be donated to the World Food Program.

Very, very good move. Those who do not know the value of food ask the hungry & poor who do not get to eat some time 2 to 3 days or more.

We waste too much food, not share with poor or hunger people. This policy is so nice... I agree with this policy..

Good move. The value of food is for those who don't get anything to eat. I think all should consider this and avoid wasting food.

So presumably all the fines go to an African charity then? :=o

That hardly seems fair to do this. What if the food is not great? This will just promote people to be more over weight, not order less. If someone tries fining me in Dammam I will get really angry!

It's a very good move! My mama always said that leaving food in the plate is a very big sin.

Very good move. Restaurants across the world must follow this because people simply waste food.
