Former Arsenal great Ian Wright predicts Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero to be the foreign star who makes the biggest impact in the Premier League this season.

Manchester City splashed a record £35 million to sign the Argentine striker from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.

The 23-year-old has taken to English football like a duck to water, smashing three goals in his first three league games for Roberto Mancini’s side.

‘The Sun’ columnist Wright reckons Aguero has what it takes to outperform the other new faces including Arsenal’s Gervinho and Chelsea’s Juan Mata.

The Gunners legend said: “He is fantastic. We’ve seen him do some great stuff in Spain and I think his debut against Swansea proved what a £35m player should do.

“I’m sure if Andy Carroll had done that against Swansea for Liverpool everybody would be up in arms saying he is the new messiah but he hasn’t done that and that’s the difference.

“It’s £35m well spent on Aguero. He will prove to be a major success in this league – he’s got all the attributes.”

There is no mention of Manchester City’s French international Samir Nasri who moved to Etihad Stadium from Arsenal for £24m after a protracted transfer saga.

But Wright backed Chelsea striker Fernando Torres to end a barren run which has seen him score just one goal since his £50m move from Liverpool in January.

Wright added: “I know he’s not a new signing but I would love Torres - with the right service - to prove people wrong.

“He’s going through a major phase of his career and he needs to make people realise he has not been space jammed and someone has nicked his talent!”
