Manchester United are ready to bid £25 million for England midfielder Jack Rodwell.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long time admirer of the 20-year-old Everton star.
Rodwell was linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer before United decided to move for versatile Blackburn star Phil Jones.
United are yet to find a replacement for retired legend Paul Scholes in midfield with Ferguson playing Wayne Rooney in the central role after their recent humiliation.
Rodwell has been in impressive form and was handed a starting berth by Fabio Capello in England's 1-0 victory over Sweden.
Everton are desperate to keep hold of the talented young midfielder after seeing Mikel Arteta leave in the summer to join Arsenal.
