Trump-Damac to build golf club in Dubai

Published

Donald Trump is back in Dubai. This time developing and managing a golf club.

Although the Trump International Hotel and Tower on Palm Jumeirah never got off the ground, a tie up with his company and Nakheel, he has now collaborated with Damac Properties, a privately-owned company, to develop Trump International Golf Club, an 18-hole PGA Championship Golf Course, in Dubailand.

The 7,205-yard, par 71 course is the heart of the 28 million square foot ‘Akoya by Damac’ master plan development, which was launched last week. Construction is already underway and the course will be ready for play next year.

Akoya master development will comprise spas, boutique hotels, residential and international schools from kindergarten to secondary level.

Trump International Golf Club, Dubai, will include a 30,000 square foot club house and a luxurious Trump Spa & wellness centre, which will be managed by the Trump Organization.

“By collaborating with Donald Trump, we are bringing the most elite name in golf and international luxury real estate to Dubai,” said Hussein Sajwani, Chairman, Damac Properties.

The Trump Organization already has 14 golf courses under its ownership and management across the world, but this will be its first venture into Asia.

“Dubai is an incredible city that truly understands the meaning of luxury. Trump International Golf Club, Dubai will be built to world-class levels, exceeding all expectations - there will be nothing like it in the region and beyond,” said Donald J. Trump, Chairman & President of The Trump Organization.

This is however not the first time that Damac has been associated with Trump brand. In 2006, Damac had announced a $150 million project with Trump’s ex-wife Ivana.

Accounting firm KPMG‘s report has placed the UAE in the top 10 most popular destinations worldwide for golf tourism. Dubai and Abu Dhabi sit in 6th place on the table, ahead of more established destinations including the USA, England and South Africa.

The development will also include a high-tech golf training academy, four international-standard tennis courts and three high-end restaurants.
