Ramadan begins in UAE: Khalifa, Mohammed receive greetings

Receive congratulatory cables from Members of Supreme Council, Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates, Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has received the congratulatory cables from Members of Supreme Council, Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates, Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers, on the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

They expressed their best wishes on the occasion, wishing good health to the President, and more welfare and prosperity for the people of UAE.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also received similar cables from the Rulers, Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers, on the occasion.

General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has congratulated President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan, wishing good health to the President.

Gen Mohamed also congratulated His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Members of Supreme Council, Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates, Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers, on the occasion.

He also congratulated Emiratis, Arab and Muslim communities on the occasion. 

Rulers, Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers greet GCC leaders, Arab and Muslim countries

Members of Supreme Council, Their Highnesses Rulers of Emirates, Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers, have sent congratulatory cables to the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council of Arab States (GCC), Presidents and Kings of Arab and Muslim countries, on the advent of Holy of Ramadan, wishing them good health, and prosperity to the Arab and Muslim countries.

Ramadan from Sunday

Earlier, the UAE Ramadan Moon Sighting Committee has announced that the Holy Month of Ramadan in UAE for the Hijri year 1435 will begin on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

Dr Hadef bin Jowan Al Dhahiri, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Moon Sighting Committee, in a statement following the committee's meeting at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, said that after investigation, application of relevant Sharia laws, and contacts with neighbouring countries, tomorrow Saturday, June 28, 2014 will be the last day of the Hijri month of Sha'ban of 1435 H, and therefore, Sunday, June 29, 2014 will be the first day of Ramadan.

Minister Al Dhaheri, in the statement, congratulated President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, and the Crown Princes of the Emirates on the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan, and prayed to Allah Almighty to keep His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed in good health for the sake of his country, Arab Nation and Muslim Nation.
Minister Al Dhaheri also congratulated UAE people and all Muslims around the world on the occasion.

The Saudi Supreme Court has confirmed that the holy month of Ramadan moon was not sighted today (Friday) so tomorrow (Saturday) is the last day of Shaabaan and Ramadan will begin on Sunday, June 29.

The UAE moon sighting committee has also confirmed that the holy month will begin on Sunday, June 29.

Earlier report:

Meetings of Ramadan moon sighting committees of the UAE and Saudi Arabia are underway in the two countries.

The meetings began after Maghrib prayer in the two Gulf countries.

An official announcement is expected after 9pm UAE time (5pm GMT).

Muslims have been asked to report sighting of the moon to the authorities concerned.

Most of the Arab, European, American and Canadian Muslims start the holy month with Saudi Arabia.

A number of reports have predicted that the holy month of Ramadan will begin from Sunday, June 29.

Meanwhile, there have been unconfirmed reports from Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman and Egypt that the holy month of Ramadan will begin from Sunday, June 29.

Sharjah Planetarium also said on June 19 that the start of the Holy month of Ramadan will fall on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

The crescent of the month of Ramadan 1435 AH born Friday, June 27th, 2014 at 12 o'clock and 8 minutes (local time) to the UAE and the sun sets on this day at 7 and 12 minutes and Wester Moon before sunset three minutes and at sunset the Age of Moon 7 hours and 4 minutes and its location under the western horizon and therefore impossible degree vision, Sharjah Planetarium had said.

A global Ramadan fasting map released by the Abu Dhabi-based International Astronomy Centre showed the average fasting hours during Ramadan, which starts towards the end of June, are as long as 15 hours in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
